The lawyers that work in the building across from Skylab must hate us. Really. All we do is play instruments, have friends over, cook meals, or embroider while sitting in the window while they toil away on paperwork. Sometimes I see them looking over and wonder if they are resentful that we have so much free time or if they think we are a bunch of weirdos.

Sorry I haven't been writing as much. Honestly maybe we'd all be happier out in the country. I know that I would be.

Does anyone know what makes the moon change colors? It was uge and orange a few night ago, and white like a sheet before that. Depending on, you know, your sheets.

I found this bug at Gatton rocks the other day...

It was floating in the water and moving quickly by me, completely still. I cupped it in my hand, using the rock to shield me from any stingers it might wield. Taking it to the side of the stream I let it rest on my sandal and warm in the sun, hoping that the cold water had merely paralyzed it temporarily. As the hot sun eased it's way under the beasts thick skin it began to writhe, flipping on it's back from side to side. I wrapped it in my dress and myself in a towel and made my way back to Pete's house to display my discovery.

Going to Raleigh this weekend with the Makebelieves.

When the sunlight that reflects off the moon (which is what makes the moon glow) passes through earth's atmosphere before hitting the moon, the moon appears to be a different color. Another fun fact, the sun changes color during a sunset because it is passing through the visible light spectrum, i.e. a rainbow.

I was issued an open container ticket while tubing on Saturday afternoon in Urbana, Ohio. It was a bargain- that is, we bargained down from wha he was trying to get us to admit to having. The game warden was the person issuing the ticket! He had been waiting on the side of the embankment using binoculars to watch us. $150.00.

that's some serious b.s.

everybody should know that it is physically impossible to do what i call "lazy river" without some sort of stimulation... especially the game warden!

Days when the rains came

This morning, about twenty minutes ago, I woke up and reached for my laptop that was nesting beside my bed. My fist impulse was to look over to Eric Thompsons website- an old friend who is constantly creating new things if he is not destroying them, pulling them apart to reconstruct them or leaving them behind completely. His 70's Chevy Nova is retired to the Seattle impound lot whilst he roams Rome and Northern Africa. You know those times when your phone rings and it says "unknown call" and you answer anyway? Yesterday that person was Eric, and he's already making friends in Europe. Anyway, I wanted to share with you his new project "Wizard Fingers".

You can fnd his rationale HERE He has video footage of the project, as well as the incorporation of dancers to his mechanized music. But is it music? I guess that's what they're trying to decide.

Arrgh! I'm sleepy.

We have a show here tonight at Skylab, beginning around 7:00 I think. Here is some HTML'd information

SUNDAY AUGUST 5th
at SKylab, 57 E Gay St, Downtown

Rage Against The Cage (Extreme Grungeapella from here)
Worm Hands (St. Louis Young Creeps)
Haunted Castle (Michigan Style)
Mike Pitts (from Somewhere)
Face Place (Local St. Louis/ Michigan/ From Somewhere style)

Early-ish

Bring a few bucks for some bands

It i with great regret that I have changed my mind about joining Rage Against the Cage, as it would put to much stress on the chords. Arrgh. You guys should come and see them, remarkable! You migh even get a lyric sheet to bring home with you.

Having finished my bananas granola yogurt I'm going to get on with the day. Just a morning update.

I wish you happiness and an L.A. Woman

also, as an aside, here are some Leonard Cohen lyrics for your rainy day.

The rain falls down on last year's man,
that's a jew's harp on the table,
that's a crayon in his hand.
And the corners of the blueprint are ruined since they rolled
far past the stems of thumbtacks
that still throw shadows on the wood.
And the skylight is like skin for a drum I'll never mend
and all the rain falls down amen
on the works of last year's man.
I met a lady, she was playing with her soldiers in the dark
oh one by one she had to tell them
that her name was Joan of Arc.
I was in that army, yes I stayed a little while;
I want to thank you, Joan of Arc,
for treating me so well.
And though I wear a uniform I was not born to fight;
all these wounded boys you lie beside,
goodnight, my friends, goodnight.

I came upon a wedding that old families had contrived;
Bethlehem the bridegroom,
Babylon the bride.
Great Babylon was naked, oh she stood there trembling for me,
and Bethlehem inflamed us both
like the shy one at some orgy.
And when we fell together all our flesh was like a veil
that I had to draw aside to see
the serpent eat its tail.

Some women wait for Jesus, and some women wait for Cain
so I hang upon my altar
and I hoist my axe again.
And I take the one who finds me back to where it all began
when Jesus was the honeymoon
and Cain was just the man.
And we read from pleasant Bibles that are bound in blood and skin
that the wilderness is gathering
all its children back again.

The rain falls down on last year's man,
an hour has gone by
and he has not moved his hand.
But everything will happen if he only gives the word;
the lovers will rise up
and the mountains touch the ground.
But the skylight is like skin for a drum I'll never mend
and all the rain falls down amen
on the works of last year's man.

Some big deal things have been happening in my life!

First of all, I have some work on Tiny Vices. I know that this might not seem like a big deal to the non nerd (I know that there are not any non nerds reading this) but I am very excited about it! You can see it here and here!

the website is http://www.tinyvices.com, it's amazing and natural and introspective and all of that. The other work on the site, that is. I wasn't trying to sound like a jerk.

Ok, and also some more good news is that my mom and my brother and I were offered a show at the Mahan Gallery in January! I am nervous and also excited, and Grant and my mom are veterans at this already so let's see how it goes.

Also- I have nodes on my vocal chords! I've been hoarse for the past few months and wondering why, it turns out it is because of nodes, which look like this-

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

If you don't focus your eyes it kinda looks like King Cobra!

It's not going to kill me, and I'm not going to get surgery or anything. I'm going to vocal therapy to learn how to better project my voice without further damaging my chords, and my friend Lara who sings in a band that you all know is going to coach me on using my diaphraghm. No dirty jokes please, anonymous.

It turns out that Freddie Mercury AND Robert Plant had nodes on their vocal chords! Robert Plant had surgery to scrape them off, which happened right before Physical Graffiti, so I think I'll say no to going under the knife if you know what I mean.

Also there is a special guy in my life these days, but I'm hesitant to talk about that kind of thing on the internet. It would be wrong not to include this on this list of good things, as it is probably the best of these things.

goodnight columbus!
