What ever happened to Arsenio Hall?

Here's where Arsenio Hall got his big start on the Merv Griffin Show in 1984. The clip ends quite abruptly, but if you make it to the end of it in the first place, my hat is off to you.

In this clip, Arsenio lets his brilliant interviewing skills shine with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Depp is on his best behavior, as he has a great deal of experience with public relations and such. Burton is not quite so good at hiding the fact that he is bored out of his skull.

He really tears into rap sensation Vanilla Ice here.

And then, he brings up the scene in This Is Spinal Tap which features Derek Smalls pulling a cucumber out of his pants. The one part of the movie that all of the bottom feeders bring up because they don't understand the rest of the humor in the film. He doesn't even know that the guys are actors. What a fucking asshole!

This is what happened when Arsenio went home that day.

Bummer.

Those people at Netflix know me better than I know myself.

I've been a member of Netflix for a few years now, and so far, it's working out fairly well. It's pretty sweet to get DVDs in the mail, because I'm not a big fan of the whole video store experience. Most of the people who work in those places just kinda' freak me out.

Recently, Netflix added a new feature to their website. After they have received a DVD you have returned in the mail, they ask you to give the film a rating of one to five stars. Then, based on your opinion of the film you have just returned, they recommend two "movies you'll love".

Last week, I returned Jackass Number Two, and was asked to give my opinion of it at the Netflix website. So, here's what they recommend for me based on whichever star ranking I would have given the film.

One star (Hated It):

Two stars (Didn't Like it):

Three stars (Liked It):

Four stars (Really Liked It):

Five stars (Loved It):

Actually, this was quite helpful. Whatever my opinion of Jackass Number Two turned out to be, I have already seen all of their recommendations, with the exception of An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder.

Taking all of this into consideration, there are only two things I know for sure:

According to the Netflix recommendations and rating system, If I loved Jackass Number Two, then I'm going to love An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder. And if I hated Jackass Number Two, then I'm going to love An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder.

Special thanks to the brilliant minds at Netflix for clearing this up for me.

He lies around the house and tells a lot of lies.

Here's a short film that I made with a couple of friends in 1996. My favorite thing about it is how during the first few minutes, everybody has socks on, but no shoes. About halfway through, we all start wearing shoes.

Another thing I like is how Lyin' Man gets all dressed up for his job interview, and THEN scours the want ads as he eats breakfast. Maybe he's just looking for a back-up plan. Can't really blame him.

Your old haircut is rad. You should wear it that way again.
