Dick Takes The Piss

Certainly you’ve been reading over on Donewaiting about famous comedian Andy Dick’s wild time in Columbus last weekend. If not I’ll give you the Cliff’s Notes: Andy Dick really loves to pee on things. And not just anything, just about everything! People, places and things! He reportedly tried to soak some fellas in the bathroom of a local gay bar. He landed a direct hit on at least one patron in the bathroom of the Funny Bone Comedy Club (at which the club's managing partner called it one of the worst experiences with a performer in the club's history). He was said to be peeing in cups and throwing them at cars in the Easton Mall parking garage. He was photographed peeing (while simultaneously text messaging??) outside his car in another locale. And at 7:42AM on Monday morning Columbus Police finally sniffed out the giant trail of urine spread all across our city and standing at the end of it was none other than Andy Dick – doing what he does best, apparently – spraying proud lilting arches of warm golden byproduct across the sidewalk and wall of Avenue One, a condominium building at 431 W. 1st Ave. It begs the question: Does Andy Dick have the smallest bladder in Hollywood or is he just the coolest man alive?

PARTING SHOT

Tonight is the epic showdown to end all epic showdowns. Myself (Gregghead), Dave Treneff, Jim Cowman, Julian Lee, and Aaron Shaver will be taking on Fern, Hinze(l), and ??? (probably three dudes that are 7' tall). The court is on 5th ave., not the one on 5th and Highland where we usually play, but the nicer one a block down (closer to High St.). Tipoff is at 6:30 pm and we are playing to 20, with a break at 10. After a winner is a crowned, unorganized games will follow and THEN there will be a PIZZA PARTY, so bring $5 if you want pizza. Probably Adriaticos. Both teams will probably need some substitutes or at least people with shoulders to cry on after such an intense battle. Bring friends and water.

Please Pardon My Dust

I am moving this week and so it will probably be quiet around here (this website) until Monday-ish. That is unless Fern or Craighead actually decide to step up and earn their paycheck for once.

P.S. Don't count on it!

Here's the super exciting part: Bobby is going to be living in the front window of the Full Monty from now on. Drop by to watch him sleep/shave/eat/etc. on the way to work. Don't tease him with food, though. That's just cruel.

Sunday Busy Sunday

Here’s some quick hitters for your much-needed day of rest:

  • Terribly Empty Pockets play (their last Columbus show EVER!?!?) at Bourbon Street tonight with Jordan O’ Jordan, The Lindsay and Midnight Wild Streets. Early show 7-10PM.

  • The Rentals return to Columbus to play The Newport with Copeland and Goldenboy. Doors at 6PM. It’s $15 and All Ages.

  • HBO’s Big Love moves to Sunday nights at 9PM. Only two episodes left this season. It’s gettin’ goooo-ooood!

  • Speaking of HBO, Flight of the Conchords is also on tonight. Turns out it may be one and done for this show (like it is for John From Cincinnati) and that would just be totally wrong.

  • And finally, tonight is the big Fantasy Foosball Draft for myself and Fern and several other NDA regulars. I'm hoping to pick up Rube Peterstuck (he's double-jointed in both wrists). Wish me luck!!
Have a great Sunday FRIENDS!

The High Strung Are Giving Away Their Van!

For those of you who haven't heard, The famous High Strung Van had a bit of a breakdown forcing us to leave it behind in Savannah Georgia or risk missing shows. Now we offer this van free of charge to you. Thats right! FREE!! IF you are in the Savannah area or making a trip to the Savannah area the van is parked at the Comfort Suites Hotel at the Savannah / Hilton Head Airport. Take Interstate 95 exit 104. Turn east and go about half mile, turn north on Crossroads Parkway. The hotel is located on the right.

The Van's Diesel motor still runs like a champ and there are new breaks and tires. The problem lies in the transmission. Now don't get scared. There's a good chance that it's only the speed sensor. This is a $70 part! If it is you got a great van for 70 bucks. If its a deeper transmission issue then you could be looking at a thousand dollars. Either way it's a winning situation.

The van is sitting in the hotel parking lot, unlocked with the keys in the ignition. First one to drive it away keeps it. And it will drive away. Write to us here and we'll send you the title.

The Race is on!! Go Get It before the cops do!!

The High Strung

SLUM-B-Q 4

The Slum-B-Q has become a sort of annual right-of-passage for Columbus, OH. At the end of each summer we as a music community get together to enjoy each other's company and bid adieu to the thick August air. Many of you already know that Slum-B-Q 4 is all set for Saturday, September 8th inside and outside of the Carabar in Columbus, OH.

What you may not know is that throughout the course of the day we will be staggering over 20+ acts across three stages along with beer, grilled grub, an art bazaar, a P.I.G. basketball tournament and a friggin' dunk tank!

Our headliner, White Rabbits (who have been compared favorably to the Walkmen and Les Savy Fav), recently performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. Their newest album, Fort Nightly, was also named one of the top ten things "to do" this week by Entertainment Weekly Magazine. Pitchfork gave it an 8.1. They should be a lot of fun!

Best of all, the event is FREE and ALL AGES (outside)!!!!!!!!! And beer sales go to charity, so come ready to DRINK!!!!!!!!!!

We'll spend the next few weeks leading up to the Slum-B-Q by rolling out some of the other scheduled performers. If you have any questions get in touch, otherwise enjoy the soothing sounds of our first featured artist...

Mp3:Provin’ It To Squirrel” 4.80MB

Internet: http://www.myspace.com/heavymole

Fun Fact: Heavy Mole lists Paul Shaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band as one of their biggest influences.

Additional information about Slum-B-Q 4, future events, press materials, and related images are available upon request.

It is also important to note that we strongly encourage people to bring cameras and any recording equipment they would like in order to document Slum-B-Q 4 for archival purposes.

On The Phonograph... Moviola.

Moviola

"Gone To Seed" { Mp3 - 5.68MB }

Dead Knowledge
{ Catbird, 2007 }

Moviola is our city’s equivalent to the grizzled veteran and/or the crafty left-hander –- they just keep on coming with high-quality stuff while completely disregarding the ordinary laws of nature (and music) by seemingly getting better with age. Both Dusted and Muzzle of Bees tapped them to pitch this week. Sure the hot-shot rookie might be the sexier pick, but these are the guys I have the most confidence in to deliver when the lights shine the brightest. And the moral of the story is: if you haven’t picked up a copy of their latest record -- Dead Knowledge -- you might as well hit the showers punk, because you can’t coach those who won’t listen.

On The Political Trail... Sen. Mike Gravel.

The guy has some good balls and a big old whopping set of ideas.

This guy is basically saying what some European countries have already done, but kudos to him for coming out and saying what he thinks.

I totally agree with him that "hard" drug addiction is a public health concern, not so much a justice and border control problem. Our country dumps countless millions down the toilet to support special anti-drug operations both within and outside our borders, criminalizing people who don't really do any harm. It'd be nice to see some of that money go into our national healthcare system to rehabilitate those who need it and to finally get our social health system inline.

Of course, this is all coming from a guy who doesn't do any drugs except drinking coffee or the occasional 8 pints of Guinness (Lord Hall @ Little Brothers).
