Friday's Food For Thought

File under: Delicious dishes

For a good homemade pizza of sorts, first go to Panera Bread and pick up a reasonably priced Artisan Three Cheese miche. Then, swing by the grocery store and grab your favorite toppings. I went for cherry tomatoes, banana peppers, pepperoni and mozzarella. Don't forget some good pizza sauce. Don't pinch pennies with the sauce because a good sauce is priceless and makes all the difference in the world in the final product. Once you’re back home, pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Cut the miche into inch-thick slices and place them upon a cookie sheet. Spread a healthy portion of sauce onto the bread followed by a few banana peppers and if you'd like, some oregano or other spices (if you got a little extra coin Chef Paul Prudhomme's Pizza & Pasta Magic is all natural and really brings out some wonderful flavors). Then, a little mozz. Next place the cherry tomatoes (cut in halves), pepperonis and a couple more banana peppers on top. Top it all off with another heaping helping of mozzarella. Now, slide the tray into the oven and kick back for 8-12 minutes or until the cheese begins to melt to a golden brown or the pepperoni's get crisp around their edges.

This is a fun spin on the homemade pizza and once you get the hang of it you can try different combinations of toppings, sauces and miche’s.

Hope you enjoy.

There's also this stuff you can buy called yeast. You mix it with flour and some water and a few other things and you can actually MAKE YOUR OWN CRUST! It's like magic or something. WOW!!!

What's a miche? Is that a Panera word or is that the slang the kids are using these days?

Man, who knew people would get so fired up over a food post? Now it makes sense why that Martha Stewart is so famous. Anyway, to answer your question mcgob, I have no fucking idea. Basically miche = big delicious loaf of bread.

Makes me yearn for those old episodes of Ultraman on Saturday mornings. Back when Saturday mornings weren't just meant for nursing hang-overs... Gentle Ben, Ultraman, Great Space Coaster and WWF wrasslin'. All classics. Anyway, here's the video for "Hey Chicken" from Loose Fur's Born Again in the USA, out now on Drag City:
What are you guys thinking about this new record anyway?

Brendan Benson And His Shiny New Supergroup

File under: Skeptical

I'd say four years ago or so I came across this guy named Brendan Benson via the old Mp3.com site. I did a little research and quickly fell for the Jason Falkner disciple and his record, Lapalco, with its brand of well-polished, harmony-drenched pop goodness. I then picked up his earlier work, One Mississippi, and was equally impressed. When I heard that he was releasing a new album last year I couldn't wait to buy it the day it hit the shelves. Unfortunately, The Alternative to Love turned out to be a sort of paint-by-the-numbers dud of a record. I was disappointed as I really felt this guy was poised for greatness (or at least above-averageness). Now, it appears as though his only hope for getting back on track rests in the hands of his old Detroit Rock City pal Jack White (is he even cool anymore?). Together with the rhythm section of The Greenhornes they have formed The Raconteurs. Check out their new video for "Steady, As She Goes" (directed by Jim Jarmusch) and let me know what you think. The video is kind of cool, but I'm not really sold on the song after my first couple of listens.

The Raconteurs release their debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers through Third Man/V2 Records on May 16th.
