In Theatres This Weekend... Dreamgirls
If you live in a big city this Friday like New York, L.A. and/or Pawtucket, you’ll be thrilled to find that you reside in one of the lucky few locales nationwide privy to the gala grand opening of Dreamgirlzzz starring Jaime Foxx and Beyoncé Knowles as a rag-tag team of street tough NYC attorneys moonlighting as lounge singers in 1960’s Detroit.
Quite literally it is the story of Salt & Pepa and you may recognize American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson who has been getting rave reviews for her turn as the free-spirited diva de facto, Left Eye Lopez.
Dreamgal also stars Eddie Murphy, Danny Glover and Anika Noni Rose and is/was directed by Bill Condon (Kinsey, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh).
If you don’t live in a big city, you'll have to wait until Crismis Day for Dreamgirls, but you’re probably the better for it. The art and culture in America’s small towns really can’t be beat. And don’t even get me started on the hip new restaurants and clubs and suburban “destination centers” springing up all over America’s heartland from Nooksack, Washington to Winooski, Vermont. It is in these urban “art zones” that you’ll be able to catch ALL the movies fit for a King and/or Queen this weekend: Charlotte’s Web, Eragon, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Good German and We Are Marshall.
