The Skinny on the Shins

Shortly after the band headlines the Sub Pop showcase at this year’s CMJ festival, November 2nd at the Bowery Ballroom, they begin their multi-format trek towards the release of their highly-anticipated third album, Wincing the Night Away (set for January 23rd, 2007). They will do this via new technology and old. You see, the first single from the album, “Phantom Limb,” will be released as a digital single (with two b-sides) via iTunes on November 14th. Then, you can pick it up as a CD-single on November 21st, followed by a 7” on December 12th.
The single tracklist goes like this:
1. Phantom Limb (album version)
2. Nothing at All
3. Spilt Needles (alternate version)
The tracklist for the full-length (which incidentally was recorded in the summer of ’06 at Supernatural Sound in Oregon, and produced by James Mercer, The Shins’ singer/songwriter, and Joe Chiccarelli (Beck, U2)) is as follows:
1. Sleeping Lessons
2. Australia
3. Pam Berry
4. Phantom Limb
5. Sea Legs
6. Red Rabbits
7. Turn on Me
8. Black Wave
9. Spilt Needles
10. Girl Sailor
11. A Comet Appears
Are you looking forward to it or hardly looking?

well... the shins are one of those cases where both albums hit serious critical acclaim, mainstream monday morning quarterbacking propelled them further into the the "hip" socio-cultural stratosphere (garden state, mcdonalds commercial...), but most importantly- the albums are really f-ing good. anything can happen. personally- i'm not a mega-fan or anything, so i'm not counting the minutes. besides, they still have to admit to aping both their name and album title from the chills-kaliedoscope world.
