In Theatres This Weekend

So, you and your little lady are going to see CGI Supershorts? Not me, I’m ignoring the early mixed reviews and heading straight for the cult-favorite, fun-house television series turned big-screen prequel, Strangers with Candy. I’ve been waiting all summer for this one. Who’s with me!?

Strangers with Candy stars Amy Sedaris as Jerri Blank, a forty-seven-year-old ex-con, junky-whore, who returns to High School after thirty-two years of being a runaway and a jailbird. The premise is supposed to be completely ridiculous and the jokes are supposed to be way over-the-top (and Sedaris is actually really cute under all that ugly make-up), so let your uptight friends know that going in so they can’t bitch about how they didn’t get it later.

Playing alongside Sedaris is Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker and Greg Hollimon. Sedaris, Colbert and Dinello also share writing credits. Dinello directed.
